Music Appreciation – Vivaldi

This week we will begin a short unit on Vivaldi. I only teach music appreciation Tuesday and Thursday so this unit will take us 2 weeks to complete.

Day 1:

• I will read from The Story of the Orchestra, and we will listen to the accompanying track on the CD.
• We will listen to “The Stories of Vivaldi and Corelli” to hear about the life and music of Antonio Vivaldi.
• The boys will complete a notebooking page answering questions provided in our History of Classical Music text. Emma will color a picture of Vivaldi to add to her notebook.
• The boys will add to their music glossaries.
• I will read about Vivaldi from How to Grow a Young Music Lover.

Day 2:

• Each of the kids will begin reading a biography about Vivaldi. Emma will read I, Vivaldi. The boys will both read Vivaldi and the Baroque Tradition. After completing their reading assignments next week, each of the kids will write a short summary. Emma will complete a lapbook piece I found HERE. Isaac will write 1/2-1 page, and Logan will write 1-2 pages.

Day 3:

• Logan will read from and listen to “Classical Music Start-Up Kit Vol. 1”.
• Isaac and Emma will listen to the Vivaldi show on Classics for Kids.
• I will read from The Story of the Orchestra about the viola.
• We will listen to what it sounds like online and compare/contrast it to the violin.
• All children will add Vivaldi to their timelines.
• The boys will continue reading their biography.

Day 4:

• Finish up the biography if necessary.
• Write summaries.
